The United States Welcomes the Promulgation of the Amendments to the Estonian Elections Law

The United States welcomes the promulgation today, December 6, of the amendments to the Estonian elections law, approved by Parliament on November 21, which drop language requirements for candidates in parliamentary and municipal council elections. This development is but another example of the successful efforts undertaken by Estonia to broaden and deepen its democracy. With the promulgation of the amendments, Estonia's elections code is now in conformity with international norms and standards.
