  • Legal Information Center for Human Rights (FY 2002)

    "Combating Human Trafficking in Estonia: Women and Children"

    The NGO conducted research on the human trafficking situation, provided legal counseling and aid to individuals and groups, established a counseling hotline, communicated with press in order to raise public awareness on the issue and organized a 5-day training seminar about combating human trafficking in Estonia. This project was designed with the aim of preventing and discouraging trafficking and strengthening the capacity of relevant government authorities to more effectively combat this phenomenon.

    Grant period: September 3, 2002 – February 28, 2003.

  • AIDS Information and Support Center (FY 2002)

    Project "Preventive-informative campaign against trafficking in girls and women in the Baltic States (Lithuania and Estonia).

    The project consisted of two phases: groundwork and an information campaign. In the first phase the recipient produced preventive documentaries entitled "Legal Work Abroad", translated the brochure "The Noose" devoted to prevention of trafficking in girls and prepared the lecture "What do You Know about Trafficking in Women and Girls?" The second phase included an information campaign including meetings with students and teachers of main secondary schools across Estonia and the training seminar.

  • International Organization of Adolescents (FY 2002)

    The goal of the Project for the Prevention of Adolescent Trafficking in Estonia is to prevent the trafficking of adolescents in Estonia by raising awareness and educating youth about the issue of human trafficking and forced labor. The project also focuses on building the capacity of local youth serving NGOs to educate youth on the issue of human trafficking and work to increase the cooperation between NGOs and the Estonian government on the issue of combating human trafficking. This project builds upon the successfully established network of NGOs and provides youth serving NGOs in this network with the training, skills and tools to educate youth about the issue of human trafficking. As a result of this project, youth throughout Estonia will have the opportunity to receive free consultations by trained and knowledgeable professionals before going abroad to work.

  • Helsinki anti-TIP conference (FY 2003)

    Participation of 11 Estonian officials from various ministries and also NGOs in the conference "Stop Child Trafficking: Modern-Day Slavery" in Helsinki, Finland on June 1-4, 2003.

  • Tartu Child Support Center (FY 2003)

    "Prevention of Human Trafficking"

    NGO organizes training seminars and holds lectures on human trafficking issues for 9th grade students, teachers and school administrations in 22 schools of Tartu and its vicinity. The project includes 2-hour information and training sessions for school administrations and teachers and 3-hour training sessions for students who will graduate from the 9th grade of 22 Tartu City and County schools.

    Grant period: May 23, 2003 - June 30, 2004

  • Estonian Women's Studies and Resource Center (FY2003)

    The project "Combating trafficking in women" aims to raise awareness of Estonians about prostitution and trafficking in women, about their causes and consequences, by using the NGO's public library on gender issues, website, media outlets, and holding roundtables and seminars for people who come into contact with potential victims – police and border guard officials, youth workers, social workers, teachers and vocational counselors.

  • International Organization for Migration (FY 2003)

    Project "Research and Information on Trafficking in Persons in Estonia".

    IOM will collect information about the current situation on trafficking in human beings to, from and through Estonia. The result of the research will increase awareness of the trafficking phenomenon among Estonian Government officials, NGOs and other relevant actors in the field. The dissemination of the results and the establishment of a national roundtable of government offices and NGOs will provide the necessary groundwork for the development of a counter-trafficking action plan in Estonia. The project builds on IOM's counter-trafficking experience in the Baltic States; it includes research, information dissemination and awareness raising.

    Grant period: October 1, 2003 – September 1, 2004

  • Tartu Child Support Center (FY 2004)

    Project entitled “Prevention of Human Trafficking” by organizing training seminars and holding lectures on human trafficking issues for 12th grade students in 22 schools of Tartu and its vicinity. The project will include 3-hour training sessions for students who will graduate from the 12th grade of 22 Tartu City and County schools.

    Project period: January 1, 2004 – July 31, 2005

  • Tartu Child Support Center (FY 2004)

    To increase the knowledge of primary school graduates of Valga and Jõgeva counties regarding the dangers of becoming victims of trafficking and about prevention strategies; to develop knowledge and skills of school principals and teachers about how to educate children and teenagers about trafficking issues; to promote inter-disciplinary collaboration between the different agencies of social network (schools, Tartu Child Support Center, police).

    Grant period: August 1, 2004 – December 31, 2005

  • NGO Living For Tomorrow (FY 2004)

    Project entitled “Anti-Trafficking Hotline Service for Women” with the aim of preventing trafficking in women and girls, providing support for trafficking victims in Estonia, and building cooperation with Finland to prevent trafficking of Estonians to Finland. The NGO Living For Tomorrow will execute the project together with the Estonian partner-NGO AIDS Prevention Center and Finnish partner-NGO Unioni.

    Grant period: October 1, 2004 – September 30, 2005
