Department of Homeland Security’s Under Secretary for Science and
Technology to visit Estonia
The Under Secretary for Science and
Technology of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Dr. Charles E.
McQueary will visit Estonia from October 11-14.
During his visit he
will meet with officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and with
Members of Parliament to discuss the issues of national security and
combating terrorism. Dr. McQuery will also give lectures at Tallinn
Technical University, at the Baltic Defense College, and at Tartu
University.
These university lectures will provide brief overviews of
the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and address DHS’s
Research & Development agenda and specific technologies. Dr. McQueary
will also discuss the need to train the next generation of scientists
and engineers to support national security. He will also address the
ongoing challenge of balancing security requirements against the need to
ensure the unimpeded flow of commerce.
Dr. Charles E. McQueary was
appointed by President Bush to be Under Secretary for Science and
Technology at the Department of Homeland Security and confirmed by the
U.S. Senate in March of 2003. Dr. McQueary leads the research and
development arm of the department, utilizing the nation's scientific and
technological resources to provide federal, state, and local officials
with the technology and capabilities they need to protect the nation.
INFORMATION FOR JOURNALISTS: TV crews, photographers, and journalists
will have an opportunity to film, take photos, and attend Dr. Charles E.
McQueary’s lecture at Tallinn Technical University (Council Hall,
Ehitajate tee 5) on October 12 at 14:15.
Dr. McQueary will be available
to take questions from the press at 15.30 at the end of the lecture.
